About Me...

Rosslyn Johnson is a New Zealand artist who paints in a contemporary representational style. Her greatest passion is the magnificent scenery of her homeland, from the South Island high country and lakes to the beaches, mountains and rivers of the North Island.

Her very popular European Collection of paintings are inspired by her travels, particularly in Italy and France. The vibrant colours of the buildings and the sparkling turquoise waters of the Mediterranean invite you into the scene, to refresh a memory or to dream of a journey to come. The scarlet poppies in the Tuscan scenes have such an realistic three dimensional effect you feel you could almost reach out and pick them!

Using acrylic, various texturing techniques give her art a contemporary feel. She has painted a variety of subjects including landscapes, buildings and flowers.

She draws her inspiration from the work of the Master Artist, whose colours are always in perfect harmony, the Creator of the beauty she endeavours to capture on canvas. As a child she spent most of her spare time drawing and painting and that interest has never waned.

She can be found most days in her studio overlooking the Waikato River. It is a lovely tranquil place to create art. Based in Hamilton, her artwork has appeared in Australian artist magazine, Thornton Gallery and Artspost. She has also been involved in several group exhibitions.

Materials used

Rosslyn uses only professional artist quality paints and painting mediums to create her artworks. They are painted on cotton canvas over quality stretcher bars. The paintings are all on museum quality canvas over pine stretcher bars with the 4cm deep sides being painted to create a three dimensional artwork that does not need to be framed. If, however, you prefer the painting framed, that work can be carried out by a professional picture framer.
